At the core of most PSC-involved projects is the construction or improvement of a company's financial/business model; either for internal users looking to improve their operational efficiency and planning capabilities, or from external parties attempting to gain insight into another entity's valuation and potential return on investment therein. Ranging from simpler models to help get a start-up off the ground or to use in aid of a capital raise, to more complex models that dig into the details of a company's operations and provide management with tools to set adequate targets, evaluate results, anticipate the timing of various financial events, and quickly plan for a multitude of scenarios, or even model overlays of DCF and other valuation estimates- PSC has seen and built a little bit of everything.
Projects always vary in size, scope, and list of priorities, but almost all revolve around modeling as the central tool for providing the output desired, and consequently this where PSC spends a lot of time and effort for our clients. The aim of PSC is to provide a tool with far more functionality than clients think they need, in a logically-arranged format that is easy to follow. Where complexity is required, PSC attempts to meet multiple levels of user functionality by overlaying summaries & dashboards, as well as comprehensive central input collectives on top of the back-end plumbing required for a robust product.
PSC has been hands-on with a number of transactions, both as a resource for companies raising capital/making acquisitions/pursuing an exit, as well as with investors/3rd parties participating in or providing support for various flavors of transactions with another company. While PSC does not specifically offer Investment Banking services, it has participated in transactions from a support capacity where the scope was large enough to involve actual IB groups, as well as smaller/private transactions. Because no two deals are ever quite the same, PSC is always looking for new opportunities to get involved with any side of transaction, and have participated in several from a range of service levels.
Examples of transaction-related projects PSC has been involved with include:
Sometimes referred to as "Fractional CFO" structures, or similar, this type of support arrangement can vary significantly according to the size, resources, and necessities of company. The common thread amongst all arrangements of this general styles, however, is a strong need for some level of on-going financial support, but a lack of total resources or priority of other resources where scarcity exists, such that making a full-time hire of any level just isn't feasible at the time / for the foreseeable future. PSC is always open to considering new fractional agreements- even those with relatively small time reservations- and is happy to explore a number of custom/flexible structures, depending on current PSC commitments.
While the pool of companies that could find some benefit from an arrangement like this is usually very large, even on-going fractional work is not always the best or most cost-effective answer to an issue that might be transitory, or driven by timing factors that could change in the future. For this reason, PSC enters into these arrangements only when doing so will not place an unreasonable financial burden on the client's operations, and where there is a clear performance improvement to be had by bringing PSC on board. Often times, however, the client might be better served by scoping a smaller starting project- typically one involving the construction of a relatively robust modeling/planning tool that management can use on their own to get a better view of their operations, or to satisfy requirements related to raising new capital, etc., and then later revisiting an extension of this initial support if there is still a need. PSC would prefer to maximize a client's investment and build long-term relationships with good partners than potentially lose one if the necessity for regular support over a length of time is not abundantly clear.
